Certification Requirements

The following is required for certification - some of these may be fulfilled before the training. Requirements must be completed within six months of training (by March 5, 2011).

  • Attendance and participation full-time at all three days of training. Willingness to stretch beyond...
  • Adult/infant CPR certification
  • Observe and report on full childbirth preparation series (class to be no less than seven hours total). May be at Blossom, in private setting or hospital/birth center in your service area.
  • Web or in-person research regarding scope of practice, philosophy and fees of three doulas in your service area
  • One L&D hospital tour in your service area
  • Attendance at three births, with self-evaluation about what worked, what you might do differently next time, how you felt after the birth...etc.
  • One-page report on each of four books listed in Category 1, one book from Category 2 and one book from Category 3 (six reports total) in the Recommended Reading section: What did you learn from this book; how will you use your newfound knowledge? Were there parts of the book with which you disagree? Why?
  • Completion of Doula Training evaluation
  • Following completion of all requirements, a final one-on-one meeting with Anna, where your certificate will be presented. If you live too far away to meet in person, a phone meeting will be arranged and certificate of completion mailed to you.
