Wow, twins! Now what? In this two-part class, we will focus on your unique and specific needs as parents-to-be of twins. Learn about birth issues which are unique to having twins, whether by vaginal delivery or cesarean. And since birth is just the beginning, we will talk about transitioning from the hospital to home with full-term babies or babies cared for in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. We will also discuss specific coping strategies for caring for and nursing two babies simultaneously and where to find the support and resources you will need, such as family, doulas, and local resources and organizations.
We recommend taking the Friday evening class in the first half of pregnancy which will cover how to reduce your chances of preterm labor, nutrition, exercise, reducing stress, relaxation and sleep, choosing a caregiver, planning ahead, and bed rest.
Our second class is best taken in the beginning of the third trimester, and it covers these topics- most of the birth variations for twins, preterm labor and the NICU, setting up and planning your postpartum support, babycare tips, breastfeeding tips for twins, and Q and A time with experienced twin parents. Take just one class or both. Classes can be taken on consecutive days if need be.
This is a fast paced class which is meant as an addition to a regular birth class. This class does not cover stages of labor, coping techniques, or other birth issues which are not unique to delivery of multiples. We recommend taking one of our other birth classes in addition to this class.
